Happy Merdeka!
i have never been a patriotic person but i must say that the specials Astro did for Malaysia's 50th birthday has somehow touched me in someway. so i guess maybe i shld drop sth here to commemorate this special day.
apparently, Astro has come up with the idea of finding 50 persons, aging fr 1-50, who were born on 31/8 for interviews abt their lives and experience. so each interview was to be shown each day, starting fr the 1-year-old infant until the 50-year-old uncle. sorta a countdown so to say. i know this sound quite normal but do save ur comment until the last part of this entry. (mayb u will feel like the way i do after u have finished reading it. i hope u do, at least.)
so today, they were showing the making of the specials. i watched and i really think that they have done a great gob. in the making, they showed us first, how the 50 persons were found. before i saw this, i never found it hard to find them because for me, u could have just paid a visit to the name registry o whateva and asked for the list of names who were born on 31/8. easy rite? but surprisingly, they were not 'discovered' in that way. instead, each of the crew called their friends, their friends' friends', their friends' parents, their friends' parents' friends and the list went on, in order to look for these people. pretty manual i must say. and it did not just stop there. having found the people u need did not mean that they would do whateva u asked. most of the peeps found were very reluctant to broadcast themselves in tv whilst some (emphasis on people ranging fr 30-40) went very suspicious abt ur call and kept asking u questions to confirm that u were genuinely inviting them to show up in tv and yet, give u a big no in the end.
according to the crew, the hardest part was the shooting of kids. they were blardy uncontrollable and of course, they lived in their own world so what u said din affect them much actually. and fr what i saw, i can feel that the crew could have lost their patience at any time but they just couldnt let it out on the kids because first, the parents were there keeping an eye on u and second, scolding them would only make them cry like hell and it would do no good. so definitely a credit here for the crew members.
and there was this part where i found it pretty funny. a Malay man was interviewed and in his part, he was supposed to read a script that had been prepared beforehand. he just couldnt remember what he was to say and his friend had tried to help him by telling him whats next behind the cameramen. i could see that the man had tried his best, because he said, "kali ini pasti boleh!". and yet, he still couldnt do it. HAHA! his fren went 'urgh...' and in the end, the man wrote his script on a board and his friend held it in front of him (behind the cameramen of course) for him to read. good take. finally. a 5-second shot can really turn out to be a day of work man. crazy.
and they had also found a couple who were both born on 31/8. so the crew asked the husband to say 'happy birthday' to the wife and it went like this:
"zhu ni sheng ri kuai le..umphfffffff....HAHAHAHAH!". the husband broke into a hysteric laugh himself, leaving the wife in shock and dunno what to say. HAHAHAHA! classic man. i laughed like mad when i saw this part and my granny asked, "jiang hao xiao meh". -______-"
speaking of the stuff Astro did, i must say that their advertisements are really good. their ads are dramatic yet meaningful, funny yet touching. very well done indeed. my fav piece gotta be the 'love knows borders' ad. i like the indian ah ma man. so cute. HAHA! u guys shld really c that.
i hav still hav quite a lot to say but i feel kinda tired now. so this is to be continued...hopefully.
